Sculptra

Sculptra helps restore your skin’s foundation by stimulating your natural collagen production to smoothen and tighten the skin, as well as enhance facial volume. Collagen is a fibrous protein that helps maintain your skin’s shape and structure. The skin needs collagen to resist signs of aging, such as fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging.

Sculptra is injectable poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA-SCA), a collagen stimulator that works over time to address signs of aging. It directly stimulates your body to produce its own collagen, making it different from hyaluronic acid filler. Through a series of treatments, typically about three sessions over a few months, sculpra is able to restore the support and volume of the skin.

What areas can be treated?

Sculptra is approved for the treatment of cheeks, marionette lines, and smile lines.

  • Sculptra is typically a mild to pain free procedure, as a local anesthetic is used to numb the treatment area before the injections. There is also more numbing agent in the sculptra treatment itself.

    The procedure is relatively quick, and can be done in as little as 30 minutes. Following injection of Sculptra, your provider will massage the areas injected for roughly five minutes.

    • Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin.

    • Avoid NSAIDs (e.g., Ibuprofen, Advil), fish oil, Gingko Biloba, St. John’s Wort, and high doses of Vitamin E for one week before treatment, as these can increase the risk of bruising.

    • Refrain from drinking alcohol for 24 hours before the injection to minimize the risk of bruising.

  • Some patients may experience mild discomfort or soreness at the injection site, but this typically resolves within a few days. As with any injectable treatment, there may be swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection site, but this is usually temporary and can be managed with ice and over-the-counter pain relievers if needed.

  • The duration of results following Sculptra treatment can vary from patient to patient, however, most patients can expect to see the effects of Sculptra last up to or more than two years.

    • No makeup immediately after treatment.

      Massage the treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days after treatment.
